It's been a while since the last update and for that I apologise. Back in April we made an attempt to map the car at emerald with the new turbo. Unfortunately this had to be aborted due to an oil leak, the good news though was that we had just as much power as with the old turbo even before we really opened it up. Then in May we spent a long weekend touring Scotland, on our return though it was apparent that the engine was now smoking badly. Guides, rings and seals are all possible causes but it was clear that now was a good time to fit the ported head and engine.
During the course of the stripdown I spotted a problem with the chargecooler so this was replaced with a new one. To help prevent a recurrence I shall now be running the cooler on rubber bushes and I will fit a dump valve.
The rebuilt engine has had a light skim and a rehone by Scholar, the rods and rotating components have been balanced dynamically by Steve Smith at Vibration Free and I've fitten new pistons to restore the compression to standard. I've taken the inlet ports out to 24mm and the exhausts to 21mm and have substantially cleaned up the throat area. For more details see the porting page.
In addition to the engine swap it seemed like a good time to convert over to a floor mounted, bias pedal box. Having opportunistically acquired a number of different pedal boxes the most suitable ended up being one from Luego that I modified to suit and welded in place.
